Botox injections provide smoother, younger-looking skin within just a week of treatment. But you can make your results even better with proper skin care after your procedure.

Avoid Skin Stressors

In the days after your injections, you should avoid certain activities that can inflame or irritate your skin. You should not:
  • Take any anti-inflammatory medicines like Tylenol or Advil

    • Rub or massage your face

    • Take hot showers or baths

    • Participate in vigorous exercise

    • Drink alcohol

    • Receive facial treatments
Avoid Skin stressors with face massage
These activities can cause swelling and other issues that may prolong any of the rare side effects like redness or swelling.

    Exercise Your Face

Botox works by relaxing nerves in the muscles around your face. You can help work the treatment into these nerves by moving your face after treatment. You should frown, grimace, squint, and raise your eyebrows. These movements will help the injection take hold.

    Protect Skin From Sun

Though the sun won’t harm your results, it can damage your skin and make wrinkles worse. When you are outside, wear sunscreen and/or a hat. Avoid using tanning beds and use make-up or spray-on tans to achieve color in a safer way.

    Stop Smoking

Smoking can make side effects from Botox worse. It also damages your skin cells and causes premature aging. While Botox will still smooth out wrinkles, your skin will look best overall without the damage from cigarettes.

    Resume Your Skincare Routine

You should be gentle with any face washing or lotion applying in the days after Botox. However, you can still use the same cleansers, exfoliants and moisturizers you always use. These products won’t harm your Botox results and can even enhance results if these products improve your skin’s texture and glow. However, if your skin care routine includes microdermabrasion or chemical peels, you should wait at least one week after your Botox treatment for these services.

    Schedule Your Maintenance Appointment

Your Botox results will last two to three months. However, if you get injections regularly, your results will begin to last longer, sometimes more than four months. Maintenance injections can keep you looking younger longer and can be scheduled immediately after your first injection.
