Since the early 1900s, people have sought to have fuller lips. Full lips are seen as a sign of youth and beauty. In recent years the media's portrayal of beauty has also played a significant role in popularizing fuller lips. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Kylie Jenner, known for their luscious lips, have contributed to the widespread desire for this aesthetic. Their prominence in the entertainment industry and their impact on popular culture have propelled the trend even further. As a result, people have become more aware of the possibilities offered by cosmetic procedures, leading them to seek solutions such as lip fillers to achieve the desired fuller lip look.

Before using lip fillers, people did not have many affordable options for achieving the full-pout look. But with advancements in aesthetic medicine, lip fillers are now an increasingly popular option.

At The Spa & Laser Center in Suffolk, VA. we specialize in providing our clients with safe, effective, and natural-looking lip enhancement. Whether you’re looking to restore volume or reshape your lips, our highly skilled professionals skillfully perform individualized treatments tailored to your desired outcome.

Before undergoing a lip filler procedure, it is important that you understand all of the potential risks as well as the benefits associated with this treatment. Here are some key things you should know about lip fillers:

How do lip fillers work?

Before the treatment, a numbing cream will be applied to your lips. The lip filler, a gel-like solution, is injected into the lips using a very fine needle. The numbness from the anesthetic will prevent you from feeling the needle in your lips. Some lip fillers may contain a numbing gel, which can minimize discomfort during the injection process. A small amount of filler is injected by a certified nurse or physician in specific areas around your lips to enhance their appearance and give you a natural, fuller look.

Depending on the desired result, most procedures take 45 minutes to an hour and involve multiple injections. Over time your body will absorb the gel without causing any harm. To maintain your fuller lips, you may need to schedule maintenance injections.

What results should I expect?

Lip filler results are immediate, however, it is important to note that swelling and bruising are common for several days post-treatment as your body adjusts to the new product in your lips. Our experienced professionals will avoid overfilling or adding unnatural volume to your features. Your results will be subtle and natural-looking. Your lips will also feel natural when you speak, eat and drink.

In terms of lasting results, lip fillers can last anywhere from six to 18 months before needing a maintenance appointment. If you are not happy with your results, your provider can use a solution to dissolve the injectable gel more rapidly. It should dissolve the gel within a few days.

Are lip fillers safe?

At The Spa & Laser Center we only use a safe gel-like solution. Our team of professionals have had extensive training in the use of these products and are committed to delivering excellent care.

How do I prepare for a lip filler treatment?

It’s important that you inform your doctor of any medications or supplements you are taking at least one week before undergoing treatment as certain drugs can interfere with the outcome of dermal fillers. Additionally, avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications as these can also cause unwanted side effects such as bruising or swelling.

A couple of days before the treatment, avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any “anti-aging” products. Two days before the procedure, also avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing or using hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
